What is Botox?Botox is a purified protein that temporarily reduces moderate to severe frown lines. It is a non surgical treatment administered by our physician. Botox cosmetic is approved by the FDA. The treatment is minimally invasive and non surgical. It requires no recovery time and very little discomfort.What is a Botox treatment like?During the treatment, very low doses of Botox cosmetic are administered via a few tiny injections directly into the muscles that cause the lines and wrinkles. The treatment is about five to fifteen minutes, a few tiny injections and within days there is noticeable improvement.How long does a BOTOX treatment last?The effects usually last 3 to 4 months, and fade away gradually. Following several treatments, the results may last 4 to 8 months or longer. Botox offers extended relief over the course of long-term treatments.What causes fine lines and wrinkles?Fine lines and wrinkles are a result from muscle movement and age. When your muscles contract it draws the skin together and over time loses its elasticity. Repeated frowning can result in moderate to severe lines. Botox cosmetic works by blocking nerve impulses, which reduces the movement of those muscles. With less movement the skin surface gradually smoothes out and the moderate to severe from lines begin to fade.Who will do my Botox treatment?Dr. Stuart Hetrick D.O. ,board certified neurologist, has been giving Botox treatments for a variety of uses for over 15 years. Dysport is an alternative to Botox.Dysport or Botox...how do I decide?Upon your initial consultation, Dr. Hetrick will recommend the best option to achieve your desired results.Dysport is not as thick as Botox, allowing it to spread more easily over an area. It's often preferred in light muscled areas such as those near the eyes, specifically when treating crows feet, whereas many specialists prefer to use Botox when treating areas with thick muscles, such as the lines between the eyebrows.While both Dysport and Botox are temporary procedures, studies suggest that Dysport results can last up to 6 months, while Botox treatments must be repeated after 3 to 4 months. Additionally, Dysport injections can show results often in 1 to 3 days, while Botox injections typically take 5 to 15 days before any improvement can be seen.Dr. Hetrick gives all injection.s.

What is Microdermabrasion?Microdermabrasion is a non surgical, noninvasive treatment that offers safe and controlled skin abrasion. This procedure utilizes micro crystals of high medical grade which are dispersed onto the skins surface to mildly abrade the skins tissue. The exfoliated skin and used crystals are vacuumed into a sealed waste container which is then disposed of. Microdermabrasion is safe and effective for all skin types most commonly treated are fine lines/wrinkles, brown spots (hyper-pigmentation) aging skin, sun damaged skin, acne and scarring.How does it work?Microdermabrasion stimulates the increasing oxygen which enhances over at a more rapid rate the fresh surface creating a more healthy skin tone.How many treatments will be needed?The number of treatments needed will be discussed at your initial consultation. Treatment numbers vary depending on the area and skin condition treated. Treatments are usually performed in six or more sessions anywhere from one to six weeks apart. The closer the treatments are performed together the faster the results. Microdermabrasion has different settings from more sensitive or even more resilient skin types. The most aggressive treatments are going to be combined with a chemical peel. See chemical peels for more details.What is treatment like?The skin will first be cleaned and toned, then treated. The microdermabrasion is done in one to three passes over the targeted area. There is a mild discomfort of the crystals exfoliating and the suction of the vacuum. The treatment will end with removal of the crystals and an application of a moisturizing masque and sun block. The skin is typically pink for about 1-24 hours following the treatment. Some patients may experience a light peeling after more aggressive treatments.

What Is a Vein Treatment?Intensed Pulsed Light with the Palomar Starlux is a proven treatment for treating unsightly broken and dilated vessels as well as other unwanted vascular lesions, such as rosacea, port wine stains and other vascular birthmarks. In fact, the latest advances in laser technology have given us a method for removal that is safer, faster and more effective than any previous treatment.How Does A Vein Treatment Work?The Palomar Starlux works by emitting a specialized light that is passed through the skin and preferentially absorbed by its target, be it an unwanted hair, birthmark, tattoo or in this case, the hemoglobin (the red portion of blood) in the unwanted vessels. The light causes the vein to break up and disappear.How Soon Will I See Results?Because laser vein treatment works by causing the unwanted vein to break up and dissolve, resolution of the unwanted vein will take place over the course of several weeks.What Is the Cause of Spider Veins?Spider veins can occur on any area of the body, but are most common on the legs and face. The exact cause of spider veins is not known, but it has been shown that there is a genetic component to spider veins. While spider veins can occur in both men and women, they are more common in females. It seems as if the hormones estrogen and progesterone play a role in the development of spider veins. How does Palomar pulsed light work?Palomar Systems uses specialized handpieces which filter light from different parts of the spectrum. Each band of the spectrum has a wavelength that is ideal for different treatments, such as hair reduction, sunspot removal, and acne treatment.The Palomar hair removal headpieces emit pulses of light into the hair follicles. The light is absorbed by the pigment in the follicles and converted to heat. The heat then loosens the hair and disables the cells responsible for growing new hair.How is Palomar pulsed light different from a laser?Pulsed light systems and lasers are very similar, but Palomar Pulsed Light Systems use a much larger treatment window than most lasers. This spreads light over a wider area of skin and allows faster coverage of the skin and quicker treatments as a result.What body areas can I get treated?Any area, except around the eyes. The upper lip, face, neck, underarms, bikini line, chest and back can all be treated.What are Palomar treatments like?Your treatment provider will move the handpiece over your skin, pulsing it all the while. Each pulse will send a beam of light through your skin. A flashing light, an audible tone, and a mild sensation on the skin will tell you when the handpiece is being pulsed.What should I expect after treatment?Immediately after treatment, you can expect a mild sunburn-like sensation, possibly accompanied by some minor swelling. How much discomfort should be expected when having a peel?A. The level of discomfort experienced depends on the treatment. Why would Ultra Peel II Exfoliating Treatment be applied and when?A. Ultra Peel II increases hydration and will encourage more flaking and peeling following the treatment because of its high retinol (vitamin A) content. It may be applied after any Physician's Choice professional treatment, or as a very mild treatment when used alone.Q. Which peels are recommended for use in conjunction with microdermabrasion?A. Using Physician's Choice chemical peels with microdermabrasion will enhance results. The Ultra Peel I, Ultra Peel II and Sensi Peel exfoliating treatments, Detox Gel for Normal/Sensitive Skin, Esthetique Peel and Oxygenating Facial Trio are all very effective choices for use following gentle microdermabrasion. These treatments may be used to encourage peeling, hydration and lightening of the skin.Q. What skin type or condition will benefit most from the Pumpkin Peel and what results are expected?A. The Pumpkin Peel BETA-C Mask Treatment is best for dull, rough skin and/or acne. It provides nutrient input and will brighten the skin. It is also great on very sun damaged skin that has lumps and bumps.Q. May people who are frequently in the sun receive peels?A. Yes, but only if they are compliant with using sunscreen protection every day. Sunbathing should be avoided directly following a treatment and while the skin is peeling. If you are getting peels to lighten the skin, it is imperative to use the appropriate pHaze 13 Pigment Gel Dyschromia Controller followed by pHaze 6+ Hydrator Plus SPF 25 or pHaze 7 Protecting Hydrator SPF 25 to reduce any chance of further hyperpigmentation.Q. Which peels may be used on someone who exercises frequently?A. Someone who is active may have any peel but all peel patients must wait 48 hours after treatment to exercise. If this is not an option, the Non-Burning Facial Peel or Intensive Vitamin C Treatment are alternative choices. These treatments use our Ultra Peel II Exfoliating Treatment which is an acid-free, time-released retinol cream. Its delayed flaking action will not cause irritation or downtime, and leaves the skin glowing and hydrated.Q. May pregnant or lactating women receive a peel?A. No. We recommend only the Oxygenating Facial Trio, Detox Gel for Normal/Skin or Detox Gel for Oily/Problem Skin treatments for pregnant or lactating women. Consult your OB/GYN for a personal recommendation.Q. Will a chemical peel make thin skin even thinner?A. Dry skin is partially the result of dead cell buildup which actually hinders the absorption and penetration of vitamins and nutrients. Having an Ultra Peel I or Sensi Peel Exfoliating Treatment will remove surface buildup, hydrate the skin and give it a plumper, "thicker" appearance. The use of topical vitamin C products in a treatment, as well as in a home care regimen, will help build the collagen in the skin, thus making it stronger and more durable.Q. Are there any treatments that are good for rosacea?A. Physician's Choice of Arizona, Inc. offers many options to help control rosacea. Our gentle TCA and L-lactic acid peel blend solutions are wonderful choices for rosacea. Esthetique Peel, Ultra Peel I and Sensi Peel exfoliating treatments all act as antibacterial agents that reduce inflammation and help promote healing. Rosacea is best controlled with a combination of in-office treatments, home care products and lifestyle considerations. Heat is an enemy of rosacea - stay cool!Q. Is it OK for someone using Retin-A, Differin, Accutane or Tazorac to have Physician's Choice professional treatments?A. We generally recommend that Retin-A and Differin use be stopped five days prior to a peel and five days post treatment because of potential irritation and uneven peel penetration. Those using Tazorac generally need to stop use 10 days before treatment to avoid this irritation. Accutane users tend to have very dry and sensitive skin and need to be treated only with peels that are appropriate for their skin type. We have found that most of the Physician's Choice chemical peel solutions are Accutane friendly. However, patients should always consult their physician before discontinuing use of any prescription. The patient's skin care specialist should always be made aware of any prescription medication use. Remember, good communication with your skin care professional is vital.
